SEO Houston experts are taking over in our region, but are they really SEO experts? Search engine optimization has been around for around 20 years. But, many people think it is a new development creating in the past 10 years. So why is there such a large gap in when people it become into existence vs when it was implemented?
Search Engine Optimization was created 20 years ago for one simple reason. SEO was created to help search engine robots understand what is on a website. These search engine robots are called “crawlers”. Crawlers are simple robots that scoop up the information on your website to index it into a database known as a search engine. Well these crawler robots don’t see the world like us! They see codes and symbols on the back end of the website which is called the source code. So when these crawlers read your website, they don’t know what an image looks like or a menu is. That is where SEO comes in. As your SEO Houston expert, I would love to explain further!
SEO Title – Example: SEO Houston
The title of a page is very important. For crawlers to understand what the page is about, it needs a proper title. Here are two examples. The correct way and the incorrect way of titling your page for search engines.
- Incorrect Title: Your Gardening Expert
- Correct Title: Landscaping Houston Expert – Lawn Care
The first title is vague but everyone knows what a gardening expert is. But when people search for one, do they type in “your gardening expert”? Or do search engine robots know what a gardening expert is? The crawler “robot” might think you are simply someone that knows about gardens but not someone that services your garden locally.
The second title is on key because anyone searching for landscaping in this great city of ours will most likely type in landscaping or landscaper followed by the name of our city. Also, the crawling robots that index the search engine will know that the page is for someone that services the landscape of your home and cares for your lawn. The crawler then puts you into a category and that category is ‘landscaping in Houston”. So as your SEO Houston Expert for your gardening company, I would never use the word gardener at all because that is something that people do for a hobby and not a career. Instead, I would use the second title to name what people are looking for exactly!
SEO Description -Example:
” SEO Houston Specialist located in north houston. Call us today for SEO Houston service! ”
The description of a page is also very important. The description should be spot on of describing your title. Below are two examples again of the wrong and right way to describe your title:
- Incorrect Description: Welcome to our website. We have 20 years of experiencing in gardening experience. Contact us today.
- Correct Description: Landscaping Houston and beyond is our passion. Looking for an experienced landscaper in Houston? Contact us!
The first title is typical for people to write these days. Welcoming is always a good thing but it doesn’t really describe the title much. The search engine robots are going to think you are a hobbyist gardener and not a professional by using the world welcome in the beginning.
The second title shows the keywords that people are searching for in the very beginning. This describes the title as more of a service that operates in this massive city of ours. Then the world landscaping is used again to emphasize the importance of landscaping and how it relates to the title of the page.
SEO Houston specialist typically get these two basic operations in SEO wrong yet call themselves SEO Experts. What I have just briefed over is 1/1000th of the structure the robots see. As your SEO Houston guru, I will continue to offer short write-ups like this to go over the basics that most SEOs in Houston fail to achieve. SEO aka Search Engine Optimization is the primary functioning component that still has the largest impact on a company. It has been slapped around, degraded, and forgot about. Almost everyone is claiming you get SEO with your “do it yourself” or hired $500 website design. This claim is just to have you think “okay check that off the list” while purchasing from these large development companies. What these large companies give you is a 1/10th of what SEO is all about. What does SEO mean and what does SEO really do? Continue reading our guide, “11 tips by a professional website builder” to find out what there is to know about real SEO.
SEO Tip 1: Speed is Crucial
A lot of these “Do It Yourself” companies claim to have the fastest servers. Some of them do have pretty fast servers but one important part of SEO is your server. A term called “Native Server” has been long and forgotten. With all these cloud computers and content display networks, we have internet 2.0. Well, the old internet isn’t forgotten. Most websites are still on something called a native server. This type of server is your own and not shared or redirected to from a cloud network. This means in the very back that people don’t see, your data is coming from one point with no redirected traffic and a much shorter url. This is important because this shows the search engines that you are original! Orginal is good. Cloud, shared, and content display network hosted servers are not so good. They take whole other extra route which means the connection takes longer to load. Search engines want the fastest load time because they want quicker results to beat other search engines. So in their algorithms, you get credit and better ranking for this native server that most people are accidentally steering away from. So look into building or moving your website to a native host instead of a host that has everyone and their grandmother hosting from. Yes, grandmothers have their own websites to these days! I know a few!
SEO tip 2: Website URL Structure is Imperative
SEO structure is the most common overlooked segment of SEO. Let’s start with these “Do it Yourself” websites again that seem to be taking over and breaking the web simultaneously. The structure is extremely important because search engines can read your website and index it much better and quicker with good structure. Do it Yourself websites tend to not care about structure because they are focusing on flashy sites that are cheap. Most of these large companies that give you the tools to make your own site don’t tell you the links are redirected with a series of numbers and letters. Why is this a problem? Search engines need the links to be descriptive and on point, so it can understand what the link is!
When the search engines just see 89069530543k545.jpeg in the file name, they will rank that poorly. Now with a native website you can control the links to read something like 13inch-red-lamp-by-ikea.jpeg, which is much easier for a search engine to understand. This same idea goes for blog pages as well. Example from DIY ( do it yourself ), 123lamps.com/j54095-blogpostredlamps/ or native professionally built 123lamps.com/Red-Lamp-Collection-by-IKEA/
SEO tip 3: SEO Website Layout is Top Left to Bottom Right
SEO targeting search engines read websites almost like a book but not exactly. With your imagination make the website into 4 quadrants. Now the top left section of the website is scooped up by the search engines the most. This is the area 90% of the activity is performed. The top right gets a little less credit of around 50% of activity. The bottom left lower than 50% and the bottom right almost nothing. So for best results, put your main idea of your website in context and images at the top left for search engines to partake on.
SEO tip 4: SEO Website Keyword targeting
SEO keywording is important because of the rate search engines read your website to index it for search results. This “crawling” rate is anywhere from extremely slow to “hello?”. Yes, sometimes they don’t even crawl depending on the signals from your site which we will mention later. Keywording is the set of words that describe your products exactly. Hold on don’t go writing the same set of words over and over because that my friend is called keyword stuffing. Search engines hate that! So this is how keyword targeting works. You simply grab the phrase or single word you are going after and try to put it towards the beginning of the title, description, meta tags, and articles. Yes, there is a lot of places you can put these keywords without stuffing! You can even put them in an Alt-tag on images so the search engine can read the image instead of seeing it! This helps search engines identify what a picture is since they are robots after all, not humans.
SEO tip 5: Image optimization
SEO images optimization makes your site run better. Why are people using 72 DPI! This is 2018 so set the DPI to 550. I personally tested different resolution on all different devices and 550 at 8bit is the winner. “But wait, there’s more”. Optimization is done after the file is created and ready for export. In the export settings in most programs, you can change the quality back down. Do this so that the image is not graining but the file isn’t Jurassic. There is a tick for some social media platforms that turn your files all grainy. Simply save it in PNG24 format! Or Tiff. This renders better for some reason on common social platforms. Also be sure to name your image file with the keyword targeting method.
SEO tip 6: Boost Crawling Rate
SEO is all about getting to that first page of the search engines fast! How do you do it faster? You have to attract crawlers. To do so you have to have a sitemap that updates whenever you add or edit your website. There is a little date and time stamp on this sitemap file which tells the crawlers something has been changed! The search engines then come back looking for the new content. You can also attract more search engine activity by posting to social media with an outbound link to an article with more information about the topic you are writing.
SEO tip 7: Websites, Social Media, and your online presence combined with.
SEO and social media go hand in hand. Social media networks love structured data, keyword phrases, site speed, optimized images, and a lot more. To boost your site you must get social! No one is going to randomly type in your exact url and happen to land on your page. They have to find it. And the second best way to get users to find your site is to post, post, and post some more.
SEO tip 8: SEO and Paid Advertisements.
A lot of people have argued with me in the past about this.. But yes there is a lot of SEO to be done with advertisements. My company is known for high conversion rates and low bidding costs. You know how? Optimized ads! You can fine-tune your ads by lining up the keywords or phrases the correct way and not overstuffing keywords. Write your ads to cause an action instead of simply stating a claim. Let’s use pizza for example.
Pizzahouse Pizza Delivery
$5.99 special 2 toppings
We deliver until 9m
Pizza Delivery 77070
Pizza Special – Limited Time
Your Local Pizza Shop in Houston
The second ad will receive more clicks because there isn’t any claim but there is an action. The SEO part of the ad is using the keyword pizza in every line at the begging, without overstuffing. The URL is also an SEO url using a code called %postname% which coverts the url to a direct name of the web page.
SEO tip 10: The use of Tables to structure data.
SEO requires data that looks good and loads correctly. Tables are still used commonly and now are preferred along with bullet points by a lot of search engines. Tables help line up data for search engine crawlers and users for a better reading experience.
SEO Tip 1
Native servers are best for speed.
SEO tip 2
| SEO Url structure should be readable by humans.
Remove numbers, letters, symbols.
Try to use %postname% structure
SEO tip 3
| The site is crawled by search engines from top left to bottom right.
Key content should go towards the top left of your website for best SEO.
SEO tip 4
| Keyword targeting if done right can have the greatest impact for SEO.
The keywords should go towards the front of the article.
SEO tip 5
| Optimize images so the file is 50kb to 100kb.
This will allow the page to load faster and will not
have a quality loss if optimized in a photo editing program correctly.
SEO tip 6
| Use a sitemap file and post to social media platforms frequently
so that the search engines know you are here and that you do exist!
SEO tip 7
| When posting to social media, use standard structure
mentioned in the step above to better target your field
and get search engine placement for that given set of keywords
SEO tip 8
| Structure your keywords in your ads to mirror
the keywording in your urls, titles, paragraphs, and image alt tags.
This will give you a better advertising quality score.
SEO tip 9
| Block the scripts from loading in the beginning,
instead make them load at the end.
This will allow your “above the fold” content
to load quicker giving you better page speed scores.
SEO tip 11: Repeat All Step Daily
Seo is about the frequency of all the above steps is what get’s everything moving. Get your keywording in place the right way without over stuffing. Make sure load time is always low. Post 3 times a day or if you want to get crazy spam filters cut off every 15 minutes. So every 16 minutes you can post new content. Make sure all your content is your own original writing. Optimize your images and videos. Add your meta tags. Use pay per click the correct way. Optimize your social media profiles every few weeks. Repeat and repeat!
Do it yourself web design makes one person rich, the company offering that platform for DIY. Why won’t it make you rich? The internet is all about searchability. Searchability is achieved by marketing at lower costs than your competitors. How does that relate you ask? Well, marketing at lower costs requires real SEO. Search Engine Optimization makes it easier for both humans and robots to read your website. In return, most pay per click networks will give you a lower cost per click just because your page is “optimized”. Search engines are all about connecting the client to the correct result. SEO helps with this by making the web page titles, descriptions, and even the pictures easier to understand for the robots and humans. If they are easier to understand and are more relatable then the connection is made. This gives you something called a “high QS” (Quality Score). The higher the quality score, the lower you get charged per paid click!
Do it yourself business website designing will not nor will it ever let you achieve true SEO because it is automated! You can’t control how your links are displayed, how your images render, or how your titles and descriptions are displayed. So without these important SEO functions, you just have a normal website that will get pushed to the back of the search engine. It will never be able to get on page 1 because on page 1, all the websites are professionally built.
On page 1 these professional websites have a lot more going on in the back than the front including optimization, metadata, analytics, search engine submissions, structure, fast load times, structured data and rich text snippets. Do it yourself website builders have less than half of these features. You basically get a white label third-party website that you can write your name on. Search engine DO NOT like that..
Do it yourself website design is like buying a suburban for an appliance delivery company. Yes, it will work but it will not get you anywhere economically and will actually drain your wallet. You need a box truck for that appliance delivery company! Do it yourself is the Suburban and professional is the box truck. The correct tools!
